Worst Hour of The Day

Announcements (blah, blah): I've wrapped up my third year of blogging. Yea me! In the interest of blogging security, I've moved all my old content to a private blog and am starting fresh. Anthony has decided to start being part of our little family journal by chiming in with witty comments - hint, hint.

Do you ever find yourself staring down the clock, urging on each minute, waiting for a better moment just around the next 'toc? When that time arrives for me, 4pm is most often the culprit. My blood sugar is low as I try to hold out till dinner, my kid fun ideas are used up, TV time is long past exceeded and the father of said kids isn't due home for 2 more hours. So I retreat into semi-coma mode. A child's bed becomes my cave as I hibernate the dreaded hour away with an occasional eye looking over at my (please be pleasant!) little ones. When the liberation of 5pm arrives, my second wind kicks in knowing the end-of-day process can begin.

What is your worst hour of the day and how do you deal with it?

Mine is totally the same time. Well actually more like 3-4ish. My brain stops working, my body is tired, my kids are running out of kindness. I'm pushing towards 5pm because once we're all fed we're happy again.

We've had problems starting at the same time. I read in Parenting Mag or somewhere that a protien snack at 3:30 or 4:00 helps to fix the grumpy slump that effects so many people. So when I start feeling grumpy I go get a small snack to save my sanity!

My worst hour of the day is probably 5:00-6:00. Henry is always cranky at that time, I'm trying to get dinner made all at the same time and Mike isn't due home until at least 6:00. That's when the brownies come out (see my post from yesterday).

I feel the SAME way about this hour. I usually curl up in our recliner and get some in-and-out shut eye, only waking every few minutes to tell the kids to share and stop fighting. And then, yes, I feel a little better and find energy to finish the last few hours before bedtime- the kids' bedtime that is. Then as soon as they're in bed I'm wide awake for my free time!

Probably around 3 pm. That's when I notice I still have to be in the lab for a while before I can go home. About then is when I tell myself I deserve to go on the internet for a few minutes and then go back to work.

So...I started writing a comment 2 days ago. Ironically, it was during the worst hour of my day so I didn't get to finish it. Something about kiddos yanking on me and crying. It was about 3:30, so about the same as you. Tom's home by 5:30 and I am thrilled when he walks in the door. He always laughs because of how beat down I look. (Not laughing at me meanly, just a laugh of understanding how tiring kids can be.) I always assure him that I really only feel that way at the end of the day. As for my favorite time of the day...7 PM. Kiddos bedtime. I love 'em, but I also love when they're sleeping. So I'm curious as to how you switched everything over to another blog.

I think that takes the tops as the worst part of the day! The morning is always my productive time. But pretty much from post-naps until dinner time it does kind of just drag on. Sometimes right after dinner is rough for me too. By then I am spent and just don't have the energy to clean up the dishes, pick up the house, and get everyone in bed. I have to go into autopilot and just start moving. Or hide under a blanket on the couch. Either strategy works. :)
